Ameraucana

We have Ameraucanas not to be confused as the hatcheries like to tell Araucanas or even "Easter Eggers".  We also have 2 "Easter Eggers", but this page is reserved for Ameraucanas.  This is a huge pet peeve of mine!  Soap box time.  There is a huge difference between the 3.  First the APA has standard for Ameraucana breed and a separate standard for Araucana.  So how can you tell the difference easily, Ameraucana has muffs and tail feathers.  Ameraucana lays varies shades from blue to blue/green eggs.  The Araucana does not have muffs but tufts on each side of its head and is rumpless (meaning no tail feathers).  Araucanas are also a small framed bird for a large breed.  Araucanas lay a blue egg.   The infamous "Easter Eggers" is a chicken that lays eggs in any shade from pink hue, blue, green, or color in between and has been breed with who knows what.  Most will have muffs similar to Ameraucanas.
