Water Fowl

Water Fowl

This year (2009) we got real crazy and bought 6 ducklings and 3 goslings.  The ducks was a impulse purchase from local feed store.  The little cute ducklings, just before Easter was cute and the nieces and nephews were going to be in town, so way not buy a few.  Water fowl ducklings are fun and very challenging to keep there litter clean and fresh!  They like to play in their water constantly.  Lesson one buy lots of fresh shavings for brooder boxes.

When looking on the internet at various poultry and fowl I stumbled across a very large breed of geese, Dewlap Toulouse.  They were large and "docile".  I instantly wanted to try and raise some.  So I started searching for breeders.  The harder it was to find a breeder the more I wanted a few.  The closest breeder that I could find was in Maryland, 8 hours away.  I contacted her and she put me on her waiting list.  After a long what I got the call they are hatching and ready for pickup.  They have been a great addition.  The grow extremely fast, at half the age of the ducks the are three time the size.  The geese follow us around the property like little kids.
